Drug mogul Merck is funding campaigns to push for a new mandatory vaccine for girlâs ages 11 to 12 in order to protect against sexually transmitted diseases including HPV.
According to an article on Forbes.com, âMerck makes the vaccine, called Gardasil, which guards against strains of HPV that cause most cases of cervical cancer. Currently, at least 18 states are debating whether to make the vaccine mandatory for schoolgirls.â
The drug maker has reportedly given money to a female advocacy group called Women in Government, whose members comprise of many female state legislators throughout the government. Many of the states bill that Merck is hoping to get approved have already been submitted by some of the members of this group.
